Since Story Planet was founded in 2009, we have delivered workshops in schools and community centres to over 8,000 children.
We have worked with dozens of schools and community centres, specifically in Toronto’s Neighbourhood Improvement Areas, with the help of more than 100 dedicated artists, writers, interns, and volunteers!
We’re proud of what folks say about us!
“This is the best program in the city! It greatly enriches and surpasses curriculum, plus deeply connects to students’ real issues, feelings and daily experience. Story Planet gave every student in the program a voice, and a sense of adventure about expressing that voice (a challenge for newcomers who are just learning English).”
“I just wanted to drop a line, which is long overdue, about how fabulous your program is. My students (at varying levels of ability), were all included, all engaged, and all successful writing a collaborative story. We have had 10 field trips this year and all agree that Story Planet was the best!”
“Story Planet has stimulated, excited, and encouraged my students to explore writing in a new and wonderful way.”
“My students participated in the ScriptMaker workshop enthusiastically and were deeply engaged. They found the opportunity to meet and talk to people who work in creative industries eye-opening and inspirational. This kind of exposure and engagement makes a real impact, particularly in schools like ours.”
“Story Planet invites young people to access their creativity by holding space for all ideas, encouraging students to dream big and draw from personal experiences to create more interesting, nuanced stories.”
“Students developed confidence and a passion for writing, even those whom are often disengaged.”
“When students heard that Story Planet was coming back into our classroom, they all cheered!”
“What we’ve found most amazing about Story Planet was that they were able to fully engage most students, even the ones that are really struggling in reading and writing.”
Anthony, grade 2: “I made sure to come to school this morning because I didn’t want to miss Story Planet, otherwise I’d be sleeping!” (day after snowstorm, lots of students absent)
“My hand hurts! I’ve never written so much in my life!”
“I’m so full of ideas, it’s like a party going on in my brain!”
“Wow, we wrote all that??”
“Do we have to go out for recess? I want to stay and do more!”
“I love Story Planet! I’m gonna miss you when we’re in grade 5!”
“I am not sure if you remember me but I was a co-op student from Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton C.S.S. in the summer of 2013 back at the Bloordale location, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I had in high school. I loved working with Story Planet and it really helped shape and design my career path as I‘ve built upon and applied the many skills I learned towards subsequent jobs and academic work.”
