My Monsters Hold Me Soft

An image of two people of colour hugging. One has blue hair and the other purple/read hair. Behind them a green dragon with three eyes coils around them. There's also a book, sunshine, and some flowers. Text in the image reads 'My Monsters Hold Me Softly, a free healing from trauma through comics making workshop, for queen, disabled folks ages 20-25. Mondays + Thursdays 2-3pm EST from May 31st - June 28th. Sign up form opens May 24th 2pm EST. Presented by Story Planet, facilitated by Vincy, Malu, Chantal, Sam, and Linh."

My Monsters Hold Me Soft is a 9-session workshop for queer disabled youths ages 20–25 who have been directly affected by abuse and/or other forms of trauma. Utilizing short comics as a therapeutic approach, the program will help participants move beyond abstract thought to acknowledge traumatic experiences and face them head on. Through art, we hope participants will come to feel that the “monsters” in our heads are there to remind us that we can achieve the love and kindness that we all deserve.

As a trauma informed and anti-oppressive workshop, this is a safe, intimate, and creative circle for those who wish to work together to heal from trauma.

Featuring artists, art therapists, and art expressive therapists as the facilitators, we also have a wide array of guest speakers within the queer and disabled community as well as a counsellor.

No prior experience with comics or art is needed. All sessions will be held virtually over Zoom and are free.

The selection process will be first-come, first-served with BIPOC priority. For this round we will prioritize working with local participants within Toronto, or within Canada. A maximum of 10 spots are available for this workshop.

Every Monday and Thursday from 2-3 p.m. for 5 weeks
May 31st – June 28th
