Since gaining charity status in 2011, we have worked with dozens of schools and community centres, specifically in Toronto’s Neighbourhood Improvement Areas, with the help of more than 200 dedicated artists, writers, interns, and volunteers!
We’re proud of what folks say about us!
From teachers…
“I just wanted to thank you again for yet another amazing program. My students are literally writing stories for fun. The students were very emotional yesterday. The team was able to help a student who has had a very negative experience with writing to become happy and excited about writing. Students were literally crying because the program ended.” (Keisha Morgan)
“My class was very excited to join again–they kept asking me when we would have another workshop! I can see the excitement and the interest.” (Grade 5 virtual teacher)
“I love seeing these kids sharing their ideas. It’s one teacher to 33 kids in Zoom. So, it is great to have an instructor with each group supporting these students in their writing. I look forward to it each week, to see the kids shine in their groups.” (Grade 5 virtual teacher)
“Story Planet put together an incredibly engaging and meaningful workshop for our students! It was wonderful to see them grow as writers and really come out of their shell in the best possible way. They were encouraged to write freely and inspired to reflect on memories they have not thought about since they were kids. This opportunity allowed them to realize their strengths and pursue writing from a more creative perspective while, most importantly, establishing a deeper, positive connection with their thoughts and memories.” (Grade 11 virtual teacher)
From students…
“I love this program. I want to do it every day. Thank you for making my art spirit alive.” (Grade 6 student)
“Dear Story Planet, I wanted to thank you for bringing us joy throughout the year! You helped me face my fears and I had so much fun working with all of my partners! I had so much fun and can’t wait to see more!” (Podcast participant)
“You taught me how to create my own stories, and how I should not be afaraid of making my characters be whoever I want them to be.” (Grade 5 virtual student)
“To the teachers of Story Planet, thank you for showing us how to give a plain sentence thousands of detail.s I loved making up my own characters and making up a story with my imagination.” (Grade 5 virtual student)
“I am not sure if you remember me but I was a co-op student from Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton C.S.S. in the summer of 2013 back at the Bloordale location, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I had in high school. I loved working with Story Planet and it really helped shape and design my career path as I‘ve built upon and applied the many skills I learned towards subsequent jobs and academic work.” (previous Story Planet student)
