Creative Writing Contest

Instructions

Take a look at the image and caption shown here. Then write a short story or poem inspired by the image or caption.

Don’t worry about explaining how the image or caption inspired you: after all, art is mysterious and magical, and it doesn’t always make sense!

A few rules to keep in mind:

  • Your story or poem must be under 750 words

  • You story or poem must be complete; do not end it with “To be continued…”

  • You must be the only author; please do not submit stories written by a group

Ready to Submit?

Take some time to write and revise your work. Sometimes it helps to out it away for a day or two before going back to it.

When you’re ready, have a parent, guardian, or teacher submit your work for you.

Caption: In a purple-coloured forest, you see strange creatures peeking out from behind tree trunks and small plants growing on the ground. Between the twisted trees there are two dark openings, but you can’t tell where they lead to.
