Story Crew

Board of Directors

We acknowledge and thank our wonderful board who continue to keep our mission on track and our eyes on the stars.

  • Indigenous Education Specialist and Trainer, Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres

  • Founder & Executive Producer, makers.to | The Global Producer Network

Makers is a groundbreaking collective of more than 11,000 producers from more than 170 countries who create everything from films and digital campaigns to experiential installations. As a child, Sumit's favourite book was Roald Dahl’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox; in fact, he wrote a sequel to the book for school, which included Mr. Fox befriending an unloved but wily raccoon.

  • Cultural Diplomacy Advisor, Global Affairs Canada

Carrie (she/her) is a cultural manager and artist educator who has worked and collaborated with Mencap, the UK’s leading charity for neurodivergent folks; Young People’s Theatre; SAAAC Autism Centre; L’Arche Toronto; and the British Council in Canada, where she served as the Head of Arts for four years. If she could be any character from a story, she would be James from James and the Giant Peach—“Because I believe in standing up against bullying and making unexpected friendships. Plus travelling across the Atlantic Ocean on a giant juicy peach would be pretty cool!”

  • Technical Consultant & Workshop Facilitator

Over the last 10 years Samir has worked in many fields including banking, mechanical engineering, marketing, sales, and now facilitation. If he was a character in a book, he would be the curious Petit Prince going on an adventure to different planets while learning SO MUCH along the way.

  • Consultant, Further Together

Esther is most well-known by her peers as an excellent meme/personal emoji creator and creative co-conspirator. As a feminist killjoy and unabashed nerd, she is committed to creating environments that are centred in laughter, curiosity, and justice in the work of equity.

If she could be a character in a book or story, she would be the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland so she could celebrate unbirthdays every day, host an endless tea party, and wear a top hat all day, every day.

  • Partner & Litigator

Amanda is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. If Amanda could be any character from a book, she would choose Nancy Drew, who (along with her lifelong love of mystery stories) was a big part of her inspiration to go to law school and, after graduating, to focus her areas of practice on investigation and civil fraud litigation so that she could solve real life mysteries. In fact, Amanda may be on the path to becoming Nancy Drew, given she purchased a Fiat as her first car (albeit a different model than Nancy Drew's infamous convertible).

  • Sales Leader & Tech Founder

Janice brings 17+ years of experience as a revenue, operations, and sales leader and entrepreneur who most recently served as the CEO & Co-founder at indie and CEO at Groupdesk. A proud advisor and mentor with Next Canada, Fora (in partnership with the UN & UNAC), Black Valley, and wmnsWORK, she is passionate about supporting female-led ventures. Janice is a lecturer at Humber University, University of Toronto, and Seneca College.
